SMS Academy 2018/19 Squad Announcement

We are delighted to announce the successful applicants to the 2018/19 SMS Academy – who have attended Knockhill Racing Circuit this morning, for the first session of the Academy programme. The SMS Academy was set up in 2017 to support young riders and drivers (aged 14-20) who are showing potential to excel in the sport. Having successfully supported 23 young drivers and riders in the 2017/18 programme, applications launched in August for a new fresh squad to come in and benefit from the Academy’s support.

We are delighted to invite clubs to attend the SMS Club Development Day on Saturday 3rd November, at Blair Drummond Community Hall. The Club Development Day ran successfully for the first time last year with overwhelmingly positive feedback from attendees.

As part of our ongoing commitment to developing coaching within Scotland, we have arranged for the MSA ‘Introduction To Coaching’ course to be delivered to MSA and SACU club members on Saturday 21 July. The Introduction to coaching course is the first step on the MSA coaching pathway. It is not a qualification; it is - as it says on the tin - an introduction to coaching. The third session of the Scottish Motor Sport Academy took place on 11 April at Knockhill Racing Circuit. The day had a more technical focus over the previous SMS Academy sessions, with workshops focussing on vehicle dynamics and riding and driving techniques.

Following the launch of the Focus Club selection process at the SMS Club Development day last November, applications for clubs to receive SMS Focus Club support closed on 12th January. This new approach to club support will see SMS Development Officer, Gillian Sefton, work with eight clubs to deliver their individual objectives in 2018.

LEVEL 2 COACHING QUALIFICATION

LEVEL 2 COACHING QUALIFICATION

12 coaches successfully completed the MSA Level 2 Coaching Qualification, which was delivered by experienced tutors, James Wozencroft and Brian Cameron, at Knockhill Racing circuit across the weekends of 3rd & 4th February (Block 1) and 17th & 18th February (Block 2).

SCOTTISH ROAD CAR SERIES TO LAUNCH IN 2018

We are delighted to announce the launch of the Scottish Road Car Series for 2018, which is intended to act as an accessible new entry point into motorsport in Scotland. Anyone with a valid driving licence and a road going vehicle will be eligible to enter the series - which will run over 10 rounds at various locations in Scotland - making it accessible to a broad range of people across the country.

SMS Academy Visited by Minister For Public Health and Sport

Knockhill played host to session 2 of the SMS Academy programme on Saturday 27th January. This session focussed in on encouraging the athletes to lead a healthy lifestyle off the bike or out the car / kart, to ensure that they maximise their time when it counts on competition day. The SMS Academy coaches delivered workshops on nutrition & hydration and fitness for motorsport.
