The SMS 2016 – 2020 Strategic plan has been completed and presented to Sportscoltand. The completion of this strategy marks the culmination of 4 years work from the SMS committee, which was initially formed in 2011. SMS was formed as a collaboration of the two governing bodies for motor sport in Scotland; the SACU and the MSA. The remit of the group has been to create a coordinated development strategy that builds on the proud history of motor sport in Scotland by developing the structures that will enable the sport to both grow at grass roots level and excel on the International stage. In addition, a key role of the SMS project has been to engage with Scottish government to gain investment and support for this development plan.
Having gained Sportscotland investment, in 2013, to employ a National Development Officer, we have since carried out a considerable amount of research to understand the sports development requirements. This process included various external and internal stakeholder meetings, which were followed by two detailed membership surveys. The information gained in this process informed the content for the strategic plan, which has been developed – this year – by our appointed SMS Strategy Group.
The strategy was presented, alongside a corresponding funding application, to Sportscotland at the end of October 2015. The aim of this process is to gain investment to support the delivery of the strategic plans outcomes over the next 4 years.
We will not try to prejudge the outcome of this application but we are satisfied that the presentation went well and we are confident that we put forward a very strong and well considered case for investment. We will now await Sportscotland’s decision on investment, which will likely be confirmed in February 2016.
We’d like to express our thanks to everyone who has supported the process and we look forward to sharing news on the progress of the investment application.
