The future growth and development of motor sport in Scotland has been strengthened by the appointment of Gillian Sefton as Development Officer for Scottish Motor Sports. This appointment follows our recent launch event, where we announced Sportscotland’s commitment to invest into the development of motor sport over the next four years.
Gillian, 26, holds a Masters in Sports Management from the University of Stirling. Her professional career began with North Lanarkshire Leisure, where she worked as a Duty Officer before holding development positions with Scottish Swimming and Edinburgh Leisure. Laterally she has broadened her portfolio, working in sales and business development for Enterprise Car rental.
Gillian was appointed after a four-way interview process conducted by a small group of SMS members last month and will begin work on 18th July.
“We were delighted with the number and quality of applicants for the post,” said Rory Bryant, SMS Development Manager. “But after a thorough interview process, Gillian was the unanimous choice of everyone on the panel. She has a wealth of sports development experience and demonstrated an enthusiasm for motor sport, identifying some of the key challenges the sport faces. This appointment is a significant step forward for Scottish Motor Sports and will be instrumental to the successful implementation of our 2016-2020 strategy”.
The role will be focussed on working with member clubs, to support them in all aspects of their development from club governance to membership recruitment initiatives. Gillian will be based out of sportscotland’s offices in Edinburgh and will benefit from the provision of a car, courtesy of long-term motor sport supporter John Clark Motor Group.
